American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Blended Learning includes: CPR/AED/First Aid/Lifeguarding.

Our course provides participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over.

Prerequisites: Minimum age of 15 by the last day of the class; must be able to swim 150 yards continuously, immediately tread water without hands for two minutes, swim another 50 yds* and retrieve a 10-lb brick in 9 ft of water. 

*MUST be able to show breath control with face IN the water and continuous movement in the water. No stopping or taking breaks.


There are seven hours of online learning that must be completed prior to the in-person portion of the class. Participants will receive a link with instructions via email ahead of the coursework. The online part of the session must be completed BEFORE the first in-person class in order to participate.


Photo ID required for proof of age. Participants must attend all classes listed for the session; no make up classes are offered.

NO REFUNDS will be given within 10 days of the course start date. The participant can be transferred to a future Lifeguarding Class or receive YMCA account credit usable for future programming.

Lifeguard Recertification

East YMCA

This course is for CURRENT lifeguards who need to recertify.

You can ONLY recertify if you have a current LG Certification OR one that expired in the last 30 days. You MUST sign up for a full course if your cert expired over 30 days ago.

NO REFUNDS will be given within 10 days of the course start date. For cancelations, the participant can be transferred to a future YMCA Lifeguarding Class or receive YMCA account credit applicable to future fees.

Participants must be able to pass the prerequisite AND the three final assessments for the ARC Lifeguarding course:

PREREQUISITE:

1.SWIM-TREAD-SWIM: Jump into the water from the side of the pool, totally submerge, recover to the surface and swim 150 yds ( 3 laps/6 lengths); after swimming 150 yds, maintain position at the surface of the water without (no hands) support for 2 minutes by treading; after maintaining position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes, swim 50 more yards. While swimming, you must swim continuously, keeping your face in the water and demonstrating good breath control. You may use the front crawl, breaststroke or combination of both, Swimming on the back or side is NOT permitted. Goggles are allowed.

2. BRICK TEST: Swim a distance of 20 yds, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet ( our pool is 9 ft),  and retrieve a 10 lb. brick. You must return to the surface  and swim 20 yds on your back, returning to the starting point while holding the object with BOTH hands and keeping your face at or near the surface. Swimming completely submerged for the 20 yds is NOT permitted. Exit the water without using the ladder or steps.

FINAL ASSESSMENTS

1. 1:30 min of passive submerged rescue, extrication to rapid assessment

2. 3 min of CPR

3. Rotation Drill

Additionally, participants must show competency in the multi-rescuer CPR scenario.
