Are you curious about YMCA basketball? Join us for a FREE Try-It Night! This fun and welcoming event is designed for players in K–8th grade. Whether your child is brand new to basketball or is interested in learning more about hoops at the Y, this is a great opportunity to get on the court.

Participants will work on basic fundamentals like dribbling, passing, shooting, defense and gameplay through engaging drills and activities. No experience is required, and all skill levels are welcome. Come to build confidence, develop new skills, make new friends and experience YMCA Basketball!

Grades K-4

• 5:30-6:15 pm (play on 8′ hoops)

Grades 5-8

• 6:30-7:30 pm (play on 10′ hoops)

Build skills, gain confidence, and have fun in our 6-week Instructional Basketball program! Designed to introduce the fundamentals of basketball in a supportive, encouraging environment.

As the season progresses, participants will begin applying their skills in 3v3 game play, helping them develop teamwork, decision-making, and game confidence.

The season concludes with our exciting Celebration Day, where family and friends are invited to cheer on our athletes as they showcase everything they’ve learned through 3v3 game intervals. The event wraps up with a special awards ceremony featuring medals, certificates, and a team photo to celebrate each participant’s hard work and accomplishments.

Our Instructional Basketball Program for ages 5–12 focuses on building skills, confidence, and a love for the game in a fun & active environment.

WIAA rules and referees are used. The schedule includes 9-10 regular season games and an end-of-season tournament, and all players get a jersey.

A fair amount of travel and time commitment is required. Teams practice twice per week and compete in the Badger Development League, playing six weekends (three games per weekend) over a season that lasts about four months. Teams may also participate in independent tournaments (additional fees may apply). Full uniforms are included and returned at the end of the season. 

Rosters are assembled following an evaluation process led by the La Follette High School coaching staff. Players must reside in the La Follette attendance area of the Madison Metropolitan School District for this feeder program. Players are not guaranteed equal playing time, and parents may be asked to volunteer for team functions. Mandatory coaches meeting TBA.

Get ready for the upcoming basketball season! Designed for players in grades 5–8, this program is the perfect opportunity to brush up on skills, build confidence and prepare for league play. Participants will work on ball handling, shooting, passing, footwork, defense and overall basketball IQ through structured instruction, competitive drills and game-based activities. All skill levels are welcome.

This six-week program meets once per week, and each session includes 45-60 minutes of skill development and instruction followed by 15-30 minutes of competitive 3v3 gameplay where athletes can apply what they just worked on. Volunteers are needed to help create the best possible experience for every athlete!
