Our instructional program for ages 5-12 leverages a fun approach to teaching basic fundamentals and skills using structured drills and game play. Our goal is to establish a foundation for success for all participants regardless of skill level or future aspirations in the sport.

Ages 5-6 play on 8-foot hoops; 7-9 year-olds use 9-foot hoops; and ages 10-12 play on 10-foot hoops.

Intermediate Leagues are designed for players with a firm grasp of the fundamentals and readiness for moderate competition. There are no tryouts or evaluations, and teams are established by school attendance area (play with your friends!) as much as possible, practice once a week and play one or two games on Friday nights or Saturdays in the Madison or Sun Prairie areas. The off-season is the ideal time for individual skill development, and our part-day basketball camp is right-sized for young athletes. Led by experienced coaches, our camps will focus on skill-building drills, games, challenges, teamwork and fun as we hone fundamentals that translate to improved performance.

• For boys and girls in grades 3-5 or ages 8-11

Do the drills, develop your skills and then put them to use in 3v3 game play! Designed to continue fundamental skill development through the summer months, the program will meet once a week for six weeks. Each session will be split into 45 minutes of skill-building and 30 minutes of 3v3 gameplay.

Gr. 5-6 boys and girls @ 5:30 pm; Gr. 7-8 boys and girls @ 6:45 pm.

Teams at this level are designed for players who love basketball and crave more practice and game time. A fair amount of travel and time commitment is required as teams will practice twice a week and participate in 5-7 local and regional tournaments. The tournament schedule is set by coaches and the Sun Prairie YMCA Sports Director.

Sun Prairie Y Travel Teams are great options for coaches who want to work together and coach their own kids and for groups of friends/teammates who want to guarantee that they can start or continue playing together. Mandatory coaches meeting TBA.

The Travel Team program is open to existing teams and coaches familiar with the players at their grade level who wish to assemble their own roster. Teams at this level are designed for players who love basketball and crave more practice and game time. A fair amount of travel and time commitment is required as teams will practice twice a week and participate in 5-7 local and regional tournaments. Rosters are assembled following an evaluation process led by the West High School coaching staff. Players must reside in the West attendance area of the Madison Metropolitan School District for this feeder program. Players are not guaranteed equal playing time, and parents may be asked to volunteer for team functions. Mandatory coaches meeting TBA.

All player evaluations, where attendance is highly recommended, will be held at the West YMCA gym:
