LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA is a free 12-week program that offers a safe and supportive environment for cancer-survivors to participate in physical and social activities focused on regaining health. With that focus, the program helps people move beyond cancer in spirit, mind and body.

Medical studies show that moderate exercise helps cancer survivors physically and mentally. LIVESTRONG has a decade-long track record of success and includes cardiovascular conditioning, strength training, balance and flexibility exercises facilitated by YMCA-certified instructors. The program also helps reduce the severity of side effects from therapy and treatment; improves energy levels; and boosts self-esteem.

LIVESTRONG focuses on the whole person, not the disease. Participants meet twice a week for 90 minutes and use traditional exercise methods to ease back into fitness. The program fosters a warm spirit of community and provides a safe, comfortable place to build companionship with others affected by cancer and enables the sharing of stories and inspiration.

No one experiences cancer in the same way, and participants have different physical challenges and lifestyle goals. LIVESTRONG provides individualized attention and an approach to recovery that targets specific areas. There’s no competition here; physical activities are tailored to match only what participants are able to accomplish.

LIVESTRONG is offered at no cost to all cancer survivors in our community. It is funded by the YMCA, community sponsorships and grants.
