Grip, Lift & Carry

How do you hold a heavy object with no handles?  How do you move it from one location to another safely and efficiently?  This class purposefully avoids the traditional easy-to-grip strength tools, such as barbells or dumbbells.  Instead, we tackle awkward-to-hold objects such as large boxes, sandbags, and slosh pipes.  We rely on muscles of the upper body, lower body, and core for each movement, making this class a truly full-body workout.

Women of all ages, fitness levels and body types will build upper body strength through body weight pushing and pulling exercises. In this 12-week program, participants will advance through stages of difficulty with the goal of completing full pull-ups and push-ups. The class gets suggested homework to do on a third day of the week because in order to see real strength gains, two to three workouts per week are necessary.

Strength Training for Martial Arts

Do you enjoy fitness kickboxing classes such as Bodycombat?  Or are you a student of traditional martial arts such as Karate or TKD?  If the answer is yes, and you want to get better at what you do, this class is for you.  This 6 week strength course is designed to prepare your body to perform arm and leg strikes in a more forceful, controlled way.  We will focus on hip flexor and abductor strength, hamstring flexibility and hip mobility, balance, breath, and explosive upper and lower body power.
