2025/2026 Four-Year-Old Kindergarten
In collaboration with area school districts, our Y provides 4K to prepare children for kindergarten and beyond with a focus on a child-centered, play-based curriculum. Lead staff are Department of Public Instruction (DPI)-certified teachers. All staff meet the Department of Children and Families (DCF) licensing requirements for educational qualifications. Requests and placement in our Y’s 4K program run through your area school district, and there is no cost to families to attend 4K when registered through your school district. Please refer to your school district’s calendar for dates when school is in session.
To help support families with competing priorities like work or school, the YMCA provides before and after school programming for 4K students, called wrap care, at most locations through our licensed preschool programs. 4K Wrap Care registration is a separate registration at ymcadane.org.
4K is offered in partnership with the following school districts at these locations:
- Madison Metropolitan School District at the East and West YMCAs (4K Wrap Care available)
- Sun Prairie School District at the Sun Prairie YMCA (4K Wrap Care available)
- Verona Area School District at Stoner Prairie Elementary

Requests and placement in our Y’s 4-year-old Kindergarten program run through your area school district, and there is no cost to families to attend 4K when registered through your school district.

4K Wrap Care for children attending 4K in the Madison Metropolitan School District
Ages 4-5
To enroll in 4K Wrap Care, please register your child on our waitlist. Our program director will contact you to complete the process; your registration is not considered final until the director contacts you.
In our wrap program, your child will have opportunities to explore, experience, question, create and learn. We believe in developing each child individually, emotionally, physically, intellectually and socially while meeting each child’s needs and learning styles. We emphasize healthy living by providing daily physical activity and meals and snacks that follow the Child and Adult Care Food Program.
YMCA 4K Wrap Care Benefits:
- Care available 7 am-5:30 pm
- Wrap Care available on days when school is not in session
- Secure and separate facility entrance
- City of Madison-Accredited
- Y Financial Assistance available and WI Shares accepted
